Introduction

The Incan Empire was a vast civilisation that thrived in the Andean region of South America in the early 13th century CE until the Spanish conquest in 1532CE. The empire spanned from the southern border of present-day Colombia and the northern border of Ecuador to central Chile and their capital was located in the now modern city of Cuzco in Peru. The Incan government system was among the most complex and powerful political organizations of any Native American civilisation. In 1532CE the Spanish began their subjugation of the Incan civilisation with the execution of the Incan emperor and the capture of the Incan capital. The capture of the last city, Vilcabamba in 1572CE, marked the end of the great Incan empire, however their legacy still continues, even today.
