To sustain a large and great empire,
the Incas needed a sophisticated and efficient government. The type of
government the Incan empire had was a centralized monarchy in which the emperor, also known as the Sapa Inca, controlled
everything that happened. This type of government system was introduced by the
important emperor Pachacuti. Below the Sapa Inca, The Viceroy was a close relative of the Sapa Inca and worked as his adviser. Next were high ranking officials, who contributed to ruling
the empire. Afterwards are the Apus, who are provincial governors that administrate
each of the four divided quarters in the Incan Empire. These people are usually
hand selected by the Sapa Inca. There were many other government officials and leaders throughout
the empire such as priests, military officers, judges, and tax collectors.
